Set 20 years after the events of the first film, a deadly radioactive virus is unleashed on the streets of New York City by Russian terrorists that have taken over a government laboratory. The virus causes civilians to turn into flesh eating zombies, and it's up to the team of AMS agents to neutralize the zombies and terrorists. And contain the virus before it spreads nationwide.

  • The film was originally scheduled to be released on March 14, 2014, but was postponed due to a major production delay involving one of the filming locations in New York, which closed to the public in April 2013. Because of this, the owners of the building had denied filming access until further notice. The film's release date was later changed several times, first to September 4, 2015, then to August 21, 2015, and to January 22, 2016 to avoid conflict and competition with Sinister 2, another horror film sequel. Then again to October 28, 2016, and again to January 27, 2017, before finally being postponed to April 28, 2017.
  • This film marks the franchise's 20th Anniversary
  • Alec Baldwin has confirmed that he will reprise his role as AMS agent Rogan Thomas.
  • Sega is contracted to make an arcade game adaption for the film. Like the previous arcade installments, the game will feature two light guns each player can operate. The arcade game was released in 2017.
